Tips For Dealing With Sick Kids

Pixmac000082342177Regardless of whether your child is sick with the stomach flu, strep throat or something you don’t quite understand, the first thing you should do is to consult a pediatrician and follow all the treatment recommendations they give you.

As you wait for the illness to end, the following tips can help calm a cranky child:

1) Fluids

Give the child plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration. You can give them milk, water or even fruit juice popsicles.

2) Humidifier

Run a cold-mist humidifier in their room to keep the air moist since it can help reduce congestion. As you do so, ensure that you change the water each day to prevent circulating dangerous mold and bacteria in their room.

3) Warm Baths

Give the child a warm bath to soothe them, especially if they are complaining of aches and pains. Make the baths enjoyable, but avoid prolonging them to prevent chills.

4) Rest

Ensure the child gets plenty of rest by putting them to bed earlier. You can also encourage them to take naps during the day since sleep helps them heal faster.

5) Tender Loving Care

Give the child tender loving care since it helps them cope better with their illness. For example, you can hold them as you give them foot rubs or soothing back massages. You can also engage them in silent play with their favorite stuffed animals. Reading their favorite books for them and even singing to them can also comfort them as they listen to your voice.
